December 20, 2017
It’s difficult to believe that 2017 is coming to a close. So much has happened this year and we have certainly seen plenty of change.
The end of the year, and over the Christmas period is definitely a period for reflection, a time away from work and time to spend with the family. With all the pressure of the working week, it is sometimes difficult to find any work/life balance.
If you’re fed up of not earning what you’re worth, not having enough time for family and friends or achieving your personal goals and ambitions, then you may want to consider a different path. One where you can stay where you are, keep the same friends and comforts, but change your life just enough to start making better use of your time. A path of entrepreneurship. Of being your own boss. Of being in control.
But I’m not talking about traditional, you-against-the-world entrepreneurship. No, changing your life can be daunting as it is, and the biggest hurdle is often the fear that comes with starting your own business. Instead, consider joining a franchise. It has all the advantages of running your own business – the greater job satisfaction, the flexible hours, the better lifestyle – while providing a support network that makes the jump seem not quite as scary. As part of a franchise family, you’ll be working to a tried and tested formula, and have decades of expertise behind you to help make business decisions and work with you to grow and develop your business. It’s the best of both worlds.
If you’re with me so far, you might be interested in knowing where to go for more information. I recently wrote a blog entitled How to Choose the Right Franchise – It’s all about a safe pair of hands, where I encouraged prospective franchisees (people who invest in a franchise) to meet face to face at the National Franchise Exhibition to discuss the potential of different ventures. But the exhibition has been and gone, and going to a franchise exhibition might be a step too far for some. Instead, I’m going to give you a few general points to think about when you begin your initial research into franchising. Consider asking these questions of any business you’re looking at:
For an example of franchise family, take a look at NIC Franchise – the company I work for as Franchise Recruitment Director. Commercial cleaning an support services happens to be one of the biggest industries in the UK, and represents very little risk, being unaffected by either seasonal influences or recession. Even if commercial cleaning doesn’t particularly enthuse you, the site goes into more detail about how to choose the right franchise for you, so it’s a good place to begin.
Thomas Edison once said, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” Running your own business certainly looks like work, but If you roll up your sleeves and put the effort in, you’ll be surprised at what you can achieve with the support of a franchise family behind you. You don’t have to dread that feeling of going to work after Christmas. Change is within your reach.
